We are delighted to be able to report that following our lobbying for investment in the environment of Douglas town centre, both Douglas Corporation and the Isle of Man Government have agreed to fund major improvements. The Chief Minister has announced that Government is to establish a Regeneration Fund for the island's town centres and that Douglas will be the first priority.
Proposals contained in the Partnership's masterplan include extending the pedestrianised area in to side streets to create sheltered meeting/seating areas. The image below demonstrates how this might look, although it is not a firm proposal.

The Partnership has proposed 9 essential steps and 3 highly desirable steps to improving the town centre as follow;
Essential Works:
1. Agree an organisational structure for delivery of
improvements
2. Create a Design Guide for use throughout the town
centre.
3. Agree a preliminary annual budget.
4. Renew all paving in the pedestrianised areas.
5. Extend pedestrianisation to create meeting places in
side streets.
6. Create a pedestrian priority boulevard in Victoria
Street
7. Minimise street clutter and renew street furniture.
8. Modernise street and feature lighting.
9. Upgrade service infrastructure.
Highly Desirable Works:
1. Brand the project.
2. Commission an Independent traffic impact study to
improve the environment for pedestrians.
3. Issue a Consultancy document on improved legislation
for the town centre.
