Independent Retailer Support Scheme

The aim of the Independent Retailer Support Scheme is to maintain a strong independent retail sector in Douglas town centre in order to maintain the uniqueness of offer, customer choice and a positive image for the Isle of Man.

Following the success of a pilot scheme in 2006/7 the project is to be repeated during 2007/8. This year it is proposed to increase the number of participating businesses from five to ten. All other project details will be identical to the pilot scheme.

The initiative comprises the provision of consultancy support for ten willing independent retailers in Douglas town centre in order to help strengthen their business. The type of assistance will vary from business to business but can include strategic planning, improving sales techniques and marketing etc. The consultancy is being provided by Martin Sewell, a retail consultant based in the island.
