The Dhoo Glas Centre is a concept for a visitor attraction in
Douglas’s Quayside which aims to tell some of the stories that have
been set in this important part of the Isle of Man using a mixture
of audio-visual-sensory recreations and guided personal observations
to help visitors capture some of the excitement, fear, sorrow,
heroism and pride of the people that have been part of Douglas
harbour.
A study is currently being carried out to assess the feasibility of
housing the project in and adjacent to the Hydraulic Tower
immediately to the south of the Millennium Lifting Bridge.
The project has the following aims;
• To provide a new high quality experience for visitors to Douglas.
• To inform and entertain residents and visitors to Douglas with the
stories of the heritage of Douglas Harbour and Quayside.
• To provide a focal point for visitor and tourist activity within
the Quayside.
• To generate civic and national pride in the industrial and
cultural heritage of Douglas.
• To be an exemplar of Manx quality.
• To inspire visitors to explore the harbour and quayside further.
• To provide reasons for repeat visits.
• To be commercially self-sufficient.
