St Ninian’s students to hold jubilee street party in Douglas town centre
Regent Street, Douglas is to host a jubilee street party on Friday July 6th organised by students from St Ninian’s High School in association with Douglas Development Partnership.
The students have arranged the event to help fund their 28-day personal development expedition in Nicaragua in the summer of 2013. Accompanied by a teacher and an expedition leader from Wilderness Expertise the 15-strong group will be trekking through jungle, climbing volcanoes and undertaking projects likely to include working in a school or orphanage.
Dylan Pycroft, 17, said: ‘This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to learn about a country with a very different culture, gain new skills and develop our ability to work as a team. It’s a tremendous challenge to raise the money needed to travel from the Isle of Man to Nicaragua and this jubilee street party is just one of a number of fundraising ideas we’re working on.’
Town centre manager Gill Anderson said: ‘Clearly these enterprising young people have put a great deal of time and effort into what promises to be a fun community event, complete with live entertainment, for all the family. Importantly they’ll be bringing vibrancy and vitality to the town centre, elements Douglas Development Partnership is always keen to encourage. I applaud their initiative and wish them every success in Regent Street…and in Nicaragua.’
The Regent Street Jubilee Street Party is on Friday July 6th from 10am to 4pm. For more information call 696308 or Gill Anderson on 612022.
