The Festival of Youth was organised by the Development Partnership during September 2011 to coincide with the staging of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas. The event, which was sponsored by Britannia International and Mannifest involved performances by young performers on the Promenade stage alongside demonstrations by skaters, bmxers, skateboarders, sea cadets and schoolboy motocrossers.
In the town centre itself we worked with the Play People to stage three amazing events, the first Douglas Zombie Walk, the "MP3 Experiment" and "Parkour Stopping".
A group of tormented and decomposing zombies gathered at Villiers Square before rampaging through Strand Street, invading the Game store and then invading the main stage on the Promenade. Several onlookers were devoured on the way. A terrifying video of the zombies can be viewed here. If you're are interested in taking part in zombie related events in the future like our facebook page. You'll also find more photos there.
The MP3 experiment saw some crazy antics with strangers all doing exercises in the Strand Centre, reading out loud in Waterstones, freezing in the middle of Strand Street and running from monsters on the Promenade. The lucky people who followed the Parkour Stopping tour witnessed free-runners hanging from parapets by their toes and other feats of skill, strength and courage.
The Schoolboy Motocross on the beach was a spectacular way to end the day-time festivities. The day finished with an urban variety show at the Gaiety Theatre.
